Why Do We Celebrate This Meal?
On the final day of Passover, the Haftorah includes powerful prophecies from the Book of Isaiah describing the era of Moshiach.
The prophet speaks of a leader upon whom “the spirit of the L-rd shall rest—a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and strength, a spirit of knowledge and awe of G‑d.”
This era will usher in justice, peace, and harmony throughout the world. As Isaiah describes:
“And the wolf shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie with the kid… and a small child shall lead them.”
The Baal Shem Tov, founder of the Chassidic movement, introduced the custom of this meal with open doors, inviting anyone who wished to join.
The sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe later explained that on the final day of Passover, the spiritual radiance of Moshiach is already shining.
